What is Whot?
Whot is a shedding card game played all over Nigeria: be the first to get rid of all your cards. You match the card on top of the pile by shape or by number, and the special cards (Pick Two, Hold On, General Market and the Whot card itself) turn a calm game into a loud one very quickly.
How to play Whot
- Deal. Everyone gets the same number of cards (six by default). One card is turned face up to start the pile, and the rest is the market.
- Match. On your turn, play one card that matches the top card by shape or number, or play a Whot.
- Go to market. If you can't (or don't want to) play, pick a card from the market and your turn ends.
- Call it. When you have one card left, call last card. Forget, and you can be caught and made to pick.
- Check up. The first player to empty their hand wins the round.
